Why your role matters:

The role of the Academic Support Officer within the Learning & Teaching (L&T) team, is to provide high quality academic support to students and staff. The Academic Support Officer facilitates students' academic skill development via individual consultations, workshops and through the provision of resources. The Academic Support Officer also works closely with teaching staff to embed academic skills support within units and courses. The role supports both on-campus and blended learning students and aims to offer services and resources that are aligned with the PIA strategic objectives and that are tailored to meet the particular needs of students

  • Employment Status: Negotiable (Full-Time or Part-Time)
  • Reporting to: Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching)
  • Location: Sydney Geelong Campus

What you'll do:

Learning & Teaching Support Services

  • Provide on campus and online support to students on academic skills and academic integrity
  • Provide individual consultations to students on academic skills and academic integrity issues
  • Develop and deliver academic skills and academic integrity and skills workshops and webinars
  • Develop academic skills resources for students and teaching staff
  • Collaborate with academic teaching staff to integrate academic and professional skills support within units and courses
  • Provide regular communications to inform students about the academic support services and resources
  • Maintain and enhance academic skills and learning support materials and resources
  • Identify and support students at risk and the early intervention processes

Projects and Reporting

  • Participate in and/or coordinate projects relevant to the academic support and Learning and Teaching team
  • Maintain records and produce reports on activities undertaken by the academic support team as required

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for improving academic support services and processes and to enhance student outcomes.
  • Implement initiatives aimed at improving the student experience and streamlining services.

About You:

Essential:

  • A postgraduate qualification in higher education learning and teaching or a related discipline,

or experience in providing student learning support in higher education settings.
- Experience in developing and facilitating academic skills workshops
- Experience in developing academic skills resources
- Capacity to develop effective working relationships with teaching staff

Desirable:

  • Scholarship in relation to learning and teaching
  • Experience delivering academic skills support in an online environment
  • Understanding of academic integrity frameworks and experience supporting breach processes or related policy implementation in a higher education setting
