Fixed term, full-time position for 3 years.

The School of Chemical Engineering is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Fellow (Level A) with a strong background in electrochemistry, nanotechnology, chemistry sciences, materials engineering, or a closely related applied science. This position will support the School's research efforts in advanced battery technologies, with a specific focus on electrode/electrolyte interface studies for secondary batteries.

The successful candidate will have recently completed, or be nearing completion of, a PhD in a relevant field. They will possess a demonstrated track record of high-quality research, including publications in leading journals and conferences, particularly in the area of electrode/electrolyte interface characterization. Expertise in the development and application of in-situ or operando techniques to investigate interfacial phenomena at the molecular or atomic scale is essential.

The role requires an individual with the potential to lead independent research initiatives that address fundamental and industrial challenges in energy storage. Strong communication skills, a collaborative and collegial working style, and the ability to engage with a diverse academic and professional community are vital.

In addition to research responsibilities, the Research Fellow may contribute to supervising research students, preparing research funding proposals, and fostering collaborations with national and international partners. The successful applicant will also support broader School and Lab initiatives, promote materials engineering to the wider community, and embody the University's values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence, and discovery.

To be successful you will need:

  • A recent PhD degree, or with a submitted PhD thesis, in electrochemistry, nanotechnology, chemistry sciences and material engineering or related applied science.
  • A strong track record in electrode/electrolyte interface studies for secondary batteries, evidenced by research publications in leading journals and conferences.
  • Knowledge and experience in developing in-situ or operando technics for electrode/electrolyte interface characterization, with a focus on elucidating interfacial components and reaction mechanisms at the fundamental level.
  • Potential to lead a research program in fundamental and/or applied areas addressing current battery related industrial challenges.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
