Overview

ARC Grant-Funded Researcher A/B - Tectonics and Earth Systems Group, University of Adelaide. Fixed term, 3 year full-time position with salary AUD 102,024 to AUD 114,917 per annum plus 17% employer superannuation.

Position

The Tectonics and Earth Systems Group seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher to study Proterozoic sedimentology and sedimentary geochemistry, focusing on Proterozoic sedimentary basins across Australia, India, and other locations. This role supports an Australian Research Council Laureate Fellowship and a Discovery Project on middle to late Proterozoic marine water chemistry and its implications for the evolving Earth system, within a broader program on the intersection of plate tectonics, critical metals, and Earth surface evolution from 1800–500 million years ago.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct field-based sedimentary geology and sedimentary geochemistry analyses.
  • Collect elemental geochemical data and interpret it in terms of sedimentary processes (redox conditions, salinity, weathering, biological productivity).
  • Apply isotopic geochemistry to sedimentary geochemistry and Proterozoic Earth system evolution.
  • Collaborate within a diverse research team and contribute to publications in international journals.
Qualifications
  • PhD or equivalent in earth sciences (or thesis submitted).
  • Demonstrated research ability in sedimentology and sedimentary geochemistry, preferably with Proterozoic expertise.
  • Experience in field-based sedimentology and sedimentary geochemistry, with data interpretation related to redox, salinity, weathering, or productivity.
  • Experience with isotopic geochemistry and interest in biogeochemical modelling is desirable.
  • Good organizational and time management skills; ability to work collaboratively with research students.
