About The Service, Unit, And Facility
Join our dynamic and forward-thinking Intensive Care Unit at John Hunter Hospital, located on Awabakal Country. As the principal tertiary referral and teaching hospital for the Hunter New England Local Health District, John Hunter Hospital's ICU provides high-quality, specialised care to critically ill patients from across the region, managing a diverse range of complex medical, surgical, and trauma presentations.

Our 29-bed unit is staffed by a dedicated multidisciplinary team of nurses, doctors, and allied health professionals who work collaboratively to deliver safe, evidence-based care. The team fosters a supportive and inclusive culture that values open communication, professional growth, and a strong sense of teamwork. We pride ourselves on providing compassionate, patient-centred care within a respectful and collegial environment.

This is a temporary contract from January 2026 to January 2027, offering a valuable opportunity to contribute to a leading tertiary ICU while expanding your clinical experience and developing advanced critical care skills within a highly skilled and supportive team.

About The Position
We are seeking motivated and dynamic
Nurse Practitioners (NP)
or
Transitional Nurse Practitioners (TNP)
to join the
Intensive Care Unit at John Hunter Hospital
on Awabakal Country. In this advanced clinical role, you will deliver comprehensive, evidence-based care to critically ill patients and their families, working within an established Scope of Practice in one of the busiest and most advanced ICUs in regional Australia.

You will function both autonomously and collaboratively as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, contributing to patient assessment, clinical decision-making, and management across the unit. The role includes participation in a rotating 12-hour roster (days and nights), aligned with the medical coverage model to ensure consistent, high-quality care.

Your week will include direct patient care, care planning, and clinical review, as well as engagement in clinical governance, education, and quality improvement activities. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to expand your expertise in critical care while being part of a tertiary-level ICU that fosters clinical excellence, innovation, and professional growth.
