The purpose of the Financial Literacy & Resilience Program (FLARP) is to support people who are experiencing financial difficulties. The program has a focus on early intervention by encouraging and supporting clients to explore options for a financially viable future. The program encourages self-reliance by providing appropriate support practices such as advocacy and referral to other support agencies.
The Position:
- 3 days per week (22.5h) - work-life balance.
- Contract to 30 September 2030 (with possibility of extension).
- Social, Community, Home Care & Disability Services Award Award Level 5 with salary packaging, flexible working arrangements and purchased leave options. Long service leave accessible after 5 years.
- Supportive team environment.
- Immediate start.
The Financial Counsellor is responsible for:
- Providing safe, inclusive, culturally appropriate, timely and accessible financial counselling and financial capability services to support people experiencing financial stress; and
- Providing services that support the longer-term financial capability needs and build confidence and financial resilience of individuals, families and communities.
Selection Criteria:
Community Action requires an ethical and honest individual who is empathetic, community-oriented and client-focused. Applicants are required to demonstrate their experience in writing in each of the following criteria with no more than 1 page per criteria.
- The applicant must hold the nationally recognised Diploma of Financial Counselling and hold membership with the Financial Counselling Association Qld (or ability to acquire same) or transfer membership to Qld if re-locating.
- Demonstrated empathy and understanding of clients facing financial hardship.
- Commitment to working within a social justice framework and understanding systemic disadvantage, poverty and inequality.
- Proven ability to work within a case management framework.
- High degree of communication skills, relationship building and networking skills combined with a significant ability to develop sound working partnerships with government, community organisations and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated capacity to work autonomously as well as in a team environment and to contribute effectively to achievement of overall team outcomes.
- Desirable, but not essential - Understanding of a trauma informed approach, and an understanding of family violence and economic abuse.
Mandatory:
- Current Blue Card for working with children or ability to acquire same.
- Current Driver's Licence.
- Eligibility to work in Australia.
