Rostering & workforce planning
- Build and publish compliant rosters across 7+ retail stores and the warehouse; hit labour % targets; ensure break/maximum‑hours rules and consecutive days off are met under applicable awards (GRIA for retail; Storage & Wholesale for warehouse).
- Manage last‑minute changes, swaps and surge coverage; maintain < 1.5% unfilled hours and < 2% timesheet variance vs roster monthly.
- Own leave calendars and store coverage; align to seasonal campaigns and centre trading hours.
Hiring & onboarding
- Run end‑to‑end recruitment for casual/part‑time/full‑time roles (JD, ads, screening, interviews with managers, references).
- Check work rights for every hire (citizenship evidence or VEVO for visa holders); re‑check visas on schedule; keep audit trails.
- Deliver fast onboarding (contracts, policies, award classification, induction, HRIS set‑up); time‑to‑productivity targets by role.
Employee relations & compliance
- First contact for day‑to‑day issues (attendance, conduct, low‑level disputes); escalate appropriately.
- Apply the National Employment Standards (NES) and modern awards in decisions that touch hours, breaks, overtime, and rosters.
- Assist with WHS basics (incident reporting workflow, return‑to‑work coordination) with store managers and the PCBU duty in mind.
People ops & payroll interfaces
- Maintain clean employee records (right‑to‑work, licenses, availability, leave balances, training).
- Reconcile timesheets vs roster, handoff payroll inputs accurately and on time.
- Report KPIs: time‑to‑fill, turnover, absenteeism, labour %, schedule adherence, and ER caseload.
Must‑have skills & experience
- 2–3+ years' HR admin / HR coordinator experience in retail, QSR, hospitality, or warehousing with multi‑site rostering responsibility.
- Hands‑on with a WFM/rostering tool (e.g., ) and HRIS/payroll interfaces.
- Confident award interpretation: General Retail Industry Award (MA and Storage Services & Wholesale Award (MA000084); strong grip on hours, breaks, penalties, consecutive days off, and roster changes.
- Recruitment end‑to‑end (high‑volume casuals through to store/warehouse supervisors).
- Practical knowledge of NES; comfortable documenting decisions that stand up to scrutiny.
- Able to run VEVO/right‑to‑work checks and maintain an automated re‑check cadence for visa holders.
Education & preferred quals (best‑practice for this role)
- Preferred: Certificate IV or Diploma in Human Resource Management (or Business with HR major). Bachelors in HR/Business/IR or AHRI‑aligned study; AHRI certification or membership is a plus for maintaining practice standards.
- Ongoing CPD in Australian employment law/award compliance (short courses acceptable).
