About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Major Projects - Energy, this is a full-time hybrid role for a Design Manager with flexible work arrangements to be based in our Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne, or Brisbane Office. We require Design Managers to support our continued expansion, with the opportunity to grow with a team of experienced leaders, with a diversity of sector opportunities available. The role is for a broad footed engineer with project management experience looking to maintain the freedom to work across their preferred areas of sector specialty, with greenfield and brownfield project opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee engineering and design aspects of engineering projects, including conceptual design, feasibility studies and detailed engineering for the disciplines of Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Fire, Hydraulic (Water/Sewer), Electrical, SCADA & Control Systems, and Instrumentation.
- Lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers and designers, primarily providing technical expertise as well as guidance and mentorship to ensure project objectives are met.
- Be responsible for quality approval and sign-off of the project's engineering and design.
- Collaborate with clients to understand their requirements, develop project scopes, and deliver customized solutions that meet or exceed expectations.
- Collaborate with internal Functional Managers (Primary Electrical, Secondary Electrical, Renewables, SCADA, Controls, Automation & Instrumentation) and manage external stakeholder relationships to ensure technically sound and schedule-aligned project outcomes (Subcontractors & Clients).
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies, with a strong focus on health, safety, and environmental stewardship.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the team, promoting innovation, excellence, and professional development.
Qualifications
- Proven track record of successfully managing complex engineering projects from concept to completion, with a focus on safety, technical quality, client satisfaction and project health.
- Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies, with a strong emphasis on planning, scheduling, and budgeting.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively manage teams and collaborate with clients and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices.
- Commitment to professional development and staying abreast of industry trends and advancements.
- Tertiary certification (Cert IV or Diploma) in Project Management (highly regarded).
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or similar (highly regarded).
- Extensive experience with discipline engineering design, with proven experience in a leadership role.
