Our client is a highly respected engineering company with extensive experience in providing word class quality products to the mining and construction industry. They pride themselves on quality services with a strong emphasis on safety including custom design and fabrication, equipment repair and maintenance, as well as equipment hire.
Due to growth, we're seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual who takes pride in their work to join their team as a Trades Assistant. This position plays a critical support role in the workshop supporting Boilermakers, Fitters and Machinists. This dynamic role helps maintain clean, organised, and efficient work areas; facilitates job setups and material movement; and supports safe and timely production. The Trade Assistant also contributes to safety, quality control, stakeholder communication, and continuous improvement in a fast-paced environment.
The Role:
- Support machine operators with pre-start checks, tooling prep, basic job setups, and changeovers as directed.
- Assist with cleaning and clearing machines, workbenches and surrounding areas to maintain a tidy and safe work environment.
- Perform general housekeeping tasks including floor sweeping, waste disposal, and spill clean-up.
- Move raw materials, tooling, and finished goods using appropriate lifting aids or equipment (e.g., trolleys, forklifts where licensed).
- Replenish coolant, lubricants, rags, consumables, and basic shop supplies as needed.
- Prepare and deliver parts to and from other departments such as QA, Welding, or Assembly as required.
- Assist with routine machine maintenance such as filter changes, coolant checks, and basic cleaning schedules.
- Support loading/unloading of deliveries and outgoing freight, ensuring correct handling and documentation.
- Assist with delivery and quality control checks of goods to internal departments as needed.
- Maintain awareness of job schedules, supporting operators in getting jobs ready on time.
- Maintain a positive attitude when communicating with suppliers, drivers, and internal stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with all team members to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Be flexible and willing to work in other areas or assist with other duties across the workshop or parts pick-ups in the Ute as directed by the Supervisor or Leading Hand, based on operational needs.
- Be proactive in identifying ways to improve efficiency, cleanliness, safety, and team support actively contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
What we're looking for:
- Experience in a fitting workshop or similar
- Stores experience is desirable but not essential.
- Forklift license.
- Ability to follow detailed work instructions and work independently
- Able to carry our physical tasks as required
- Self motivated, good organisations skills
- Suited to working in a fast-paced environment.
- Punctual and reliable with exceptional interpersonal skills
