About The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity is available for a highly motivated Research Scientist to join the Multiple Myeloma Research Group on a Full Time contract. We are seeking a driven individual with a strong desire to grow professionally and expand their technical skill set. Working closely with clinicians and hospital scientists in the Institute of Hematology's diagnostic laboratory, you will contribute to the development and implementation of a wide range of cellular and immunologic techniques, with the potential to be a named author on peer-reviewed publications. You will be supported by an experienced team, including the Laboratory Manager, scientists, and clinicians dedicated to your development.
The Multiple Myeloma Research Group, based at the Institute of Hematology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, is a world-class academic research team committed to advancing the understanding and treatment of Multiple Myeloma. Our scientists work with a broad spectrum of clinical samples, including blood, bone marrow, lymphoid tissues, and tumour specimen, and apply cutting-edge methodologies such as flow cytometry, cell culture, and high-throughput bioinformatics to analyse high-dimensional datasets. What You'll Be Doing
To conduct approved research studies under direction of the department head. Conducting research activities as directed. These activities may include but are not limited to: assay performance; assay development; translation of research assays to a clinical setting; assay validations; development and documentation of protocols; co-operation with other research groups; storage of samples; preparation of manuscripts for publication; screening studies; population studies; presentation of research at conferences/workshops; compliance with operational standards and procedures, quality standards and continual process improvement.

- Bachelor Degree or higher degree in Science/Biomedical Science or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution.
- Demonstrated experience in scientific/medical research including handling human clinical specimens, human cell culture and flow cytometry.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in research relevant to the laboratory, including use of Laboratory Information Systems, and Quality Control Systems and computer programs such as Microsoft Office suite and Endnote, FlowJo, Prism software and use of online research databases.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with clinical and laboratory staff, along with report and manuscript writing skills and statistical evaluation of scientific data using biostatistical methods.
- Ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner and to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines. In addition to excellent organisational and record keeping skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment while working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes and contribute to a range of laboratory skills relevant to the research.
- Display initiative, problem solving and analytical skills including an ability to apply established principles in a research laboratory and investigate and resolve general and complex issues within the laboratory environment.
- Sound understanding of risks involved in handling biological specimens and infectious agents, legislation and policies that impact the laboratory environment including ethics, work health and safety and privacy requirements.
