Board Chair - Outdoor Access Commission

The Outdoor Access Commission (OAC) is seeking a new Board Chair.

We are looking for a highly capable leader with proven experience in governance, financial oversight, stakeholder engagement, and relationship management. The ideal candidate will guide the Board effectively and help raise the Commission's profile nationally.

About the Commission

The Commission is a Crown agency that leads efforts to improve access to the outdoors across New Zealand. It administers a national strategy for outdoor access, including tracks and trails, and is responsible for:

  • Mapping public access routes
  • Providing information to the public
  • Promoting responsible outdoor conduct
  • Resolving access disputes
  • Negotiating new access opportunities

Role Details

  • Appointment: Made by the Minister of Agriculture for a term of up to three years.
  • Meetings: 5 - 6 times per year, typically over two days.
  • Additional Commitment: approximately one day per month outside of Board meetings.
  • Remuneration: $18,700 per annum (under review in line with the Cabinet Fees Framework).
  • Expenses: Travel costs for Board meetings are covered by the Commission.
