AUSTRALIAN ORGAN AND TISSUE DONATION AND TRANSPLANTATION AUTHORITY ADVISORY BOARD – CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

Nominations are invited from suitably qualified persons for the membership of the Australian Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation Authority (OTA) Advisory Board. The OTA Advisory Board Deputy Chair and Members are ministerially appointed, and comprise of representatives with a mix of clinical, research, public health and advocacy expertise for organ and tissue donation and transplantation. Terms of appointment are for up to 4 years, commencing 1 January

The OTA was established in 2009 by the Australian Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation Authority Act 2008 (OTA Act).

The OTA, on behalf of the Australian Government, leads the national DonateLife program to increase organ and tissue donation and transplantation in partnership with the DonateLife Network, state and territory governments, the donation and transplantation sectors, the eye and tissue sectors, hospitals, community organisations and the public.

The OTA Advisory Board's primary function is to provide advice to the OTA CEO on the objectives, strategies and policies of the OTA, the performance of the OTA, and organ and tissue donation and transplantation matters.

Who Should Nominate?

Nominees should have recognised skills and experience in fields relevant to organ and tissue donation and transplantation as specified in the OTA Act. The nominees must have experience in, or knowledge of, at least one of the following fields:

a) public or health leadership or administration;

b) clinical expertise in organ or tissue donation and transplantation;

c) business management;

d) community leadership and engagement in relation to organ or tissue donation and transplantation matters;

e) promotion of organ or tissue donation and transplantation matters;

f) health consumer advocacy;

g) any other field that the Minister considers appropriate.

OTA Advisory Board members including the Chair, Deputy Chair and Members are appointed as individuals based on their expertise and not as representatives of a particular organisation.

The OTA Advisory Board are expected to meet at least four times each financial year. Advisory Board members are paid the remuneration that is determined by the Remuneration Tribunal, in accordance with the Remuneration Tribunal Act 1973.

Nomination and Appointment process

Appointments are made by the Minister responsible for organ and tissue donation and transplantation and are up to a period of 4 years. To nominate for membership of OTA Advisory Board for , please refer to the 'Information for Nominees' document and provide the required information through the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing's recruitment portal.

Please note that the nomination, selection and appointment process involves consultation with state and territory health Ministers' and is expected to take several months.

Nominations must be received by 17 November 2025.
