Within the Student Life Directorate, the Psychological Counselling Support (PCS) team provides a free confidential psychological counselling service for currently enrolled ECU students. About the Opportunity
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced manager to lead a team of highly experienced psychologists and supportive administrative staff in the provision of confidential counselling to ECU students. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Student Health and Wellbeing, this position is responsible for the daily operation of PCS, while coordinating service-wide responses to critical incidents and urgent student presentations, and providing consultative support to staff on possible psychological problems affecting students in and around the classroom setting. The position also manages the relationships with the contracted out of hours student crisis line and an overseas student counselling provider.
The position works closely with the other Managers within the Student Health and Wellbeing portfolio, as well as the Student Incident and Support Team, and plays an important role in the Safer Communities Team.
The position responds out of normal business hours as required by the Director, Student Life, or the Senior Manager, Student Health and Wellbeing.
Key Criteria
- Postgraduate psychology qualification in an area relevant to counselling, preferably a Masters in Psychology, plus extensive relevant postgraduate experience and full registration with APHRA;
- Extensive counselling experience with demonstrated knowledge and skills in assessing and treating adults with a broad range of psycho-social problems and disorders;
- Demonstrated experience in managing critical incidents and crisis intervention;
- Demonstrated skills in managing or leading clinical, counselling or psychotherapy teams;
- Relevant experience in developing and running group programs;
- Knowledge of and skills for working with cross-cultural and equity issues;
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in working with other support agencies; current knowledge and commitment to legislative obligations for Equal Opportunity, Disability Service, Occupational Safety and Health and how these impact on service delivery.
