Noosa Council is looking for a motivated and professional Governance Officer to join our Governance Branch. This is a rare opportunity to step into a high-impact role that directly supports good governance, ethical decision-making and public confidence in local government, while enjoying true work-life balance with part-time hours and hybrid flexibility.
In this role, you'll provide expert support and advice across governance, privacy, complaints, insurance, risk, statutory decision-making and policy. You'll work closely with internal teams, the community and regulators to promote accountability, good conduct and organisational integrity.
What you'll be doingIn this role you will:
- Provide advice on governance, integrity and compliance matters, and support teams to understand their obligations.
- Administer Council's complaints management framework (including privacy, human rights and governance-related complaints), and prepare clear, professional responses.
- Assess and make formal decisions on Right to Information and Information Privacy applications in line with legislation.
- Coordinate Council's delegations program, ensuring delegations remain accurate, current and defensible.
- Support the management of insurance claims, investigating claims, preparing evidence-based recommendations and assisting with renewals.
- Contribute to risk management, human rights, conflicts of interest, and the preparation of key corporate reporting (including the Annual Report).
- Maintain governance registers, prepare briefing notes and reports for internal and external stakeholders, and support audit/improvement actions.
- Help deliver governance training across Council and build the profile of the Governance team.
This is a role with real breadth, part adviser, part investigator, part problem-solver. No two days will be the same.
About youYou're someone who cares about doing things the right way. You're calm, professional and great with people and you can confidently navigate sensitive and sometimes complex matters.
You'll bring:
- Experience in a governance-related role in government or the private sector.
- The ability to interpret and apply legislation, policy and statutory processes.
- Knowledge (or the ability to quickly develop knowledge) in areas such as complaints management, insurance claims handling, risk, right to information, information privacy, policy development and corporate governance frameworks.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships, influence, and provide clear, customer-focused advice to both internal stakeholders and the community.
- High attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to work with discretion and confidentiality.
- Strong organisational skills, you can prioritise, manage competing deadlines, and handle multiple matters at once.
You'll also hold relevant tertiary qualifications in Business, Local Government, Law or a related discipline, and a current Driver's Licence "C" Class.
