Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

As a Contaminated Land Consultant, you'll play a key role in delivering a wide range of projects - from site investigations and remediation strategies to environmental management plans and due diligence assessments. You will work closely with technical advisors and partner organisations to drive sustainable outcomes in a fast paced, collaborative environment. Confident in taking ownership, you'll run reports and manage tasks independently while contributing to impactful, real-world solutions. Once you've mastered this role, there will be opportunities to move into project management or leadership positions, allowing you to take your career to the next level.

The Opportunity

  • Lead and conduct field investigations including soil and groundwater sampling, contractor supervision, and health and safety oversight.
  • Work on projects based in other Australian states and territories and the wider APAC region, learn about local regulations and working practices
  • Deliver high-quality technical documentation including environmental reports, remediation plans, and assessments.
  • Be an advocate of Arup's purpose and help the contaminated land team achieve its strategic priorities and deliver on its value proposition.
  • Work in a dynamic multidisciplinary environment alongside colleagues from many Arup disciplines, learning about their technical areas and how contaminated land impacts on project design and construction.
  • Mentor and support junior team members, offering guidance and feedback to build capability within the team.
  • Represent the team in external meetings, helping to shape solutions and build stakeholder relationships.
  • Contribute to internal initiatives and projects, promoting continuous improvement and innovation.

At Arup, you will belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

  • A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Earth Science, Geology or a related field, with 4–6 years of industry experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of contaminated land assessment, remediation, and relevant legislation.
  • Proven experience coordinating site work on complex and high-risk projects.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to write clear, concise reports and assessments.
  • A collaborative, adaptable mindset with a passion for large infrastructure and environmental impact work.
