About Us

At headspace Esperance, we're a passionate team of Psychologists, Social Workers, a Youth Worker, Community Engagement Officer, and a Registered Mental Health Nurse. We're proud to be the only youth-focused mental health service in the region, offering vital early intervention support for young people aged 12–25.

Our Lead Agency, HOPE Community Services, also operates the Goldfields Community Alcohol and Drug Service, providing holistic and coordinated support to the local community.

About the Role

We're looking for a Youth Counsellor (or Graduate) who is skilled, compassionate, and passionate about working alongside young people.

In this diverse and rewarding role, you'll be a key point of contact for young people accessing headspace Esperance, offering brief interventions, psycho-social assessments, therapeutic support, and group facilitation. You'll work closely with a multidisciplinary team and have the opportunity to contribute to outreach, school engagement, and community events.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting initial screening, intake and psychosocial assessments
  • Delivering evidence-based brief interventions and counselling
  • Supporting goal setting and care planning alongside young people
  • Facilitating therapeutic or psychoeducational group programs
  • Participating in case reviews and multidisciplinary care planning
  • Maintaining accurate case notes and client records
  • Supporting young people with co-occurring needs (AOD, work & study, etc.)
  • Promoting mental health literacy through school and community engagement

You'll Need

  • Qualification in social work, psychology, community services, counselling, youth work, mental health nursing, or similar (including diploma) – graduates encouraged to apply
  • Demonstrated experience supporting young people with mild to moderate mental health concerns
  • Ability to build trust and rapport with young people, including those with complex needs
  • Experience in delivering brief therapeutic interventions (e.g., CBT, IPT, family-based work)
  • Understanding of youth mental health, engagement barriers, and local service systems
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and documentation skills
  • Current Working with Children Check, National Police Clearance (within 3 months), and WA driver's licence
