The Role
Bannisters Port Stephens is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a casual Commis Chef to join our passionate culinary team.
As a Commis Chef, you will be an integral part of delivering our dining experience to our guests, across a number of our exciting F&B outlets, including the relaxed coastal bistro & bar, Cheeky Dog, our poolside modern Mexican, Julio's and the renowned Rick Stein at Port Stephens.
About Bannisters Port Stephens
Located on Soldiers Point peninsula, the latest addition to the Bannisters brand is newly constructed and draws upon our strong food tradition. Our outlets feature the approachable fine dining of Rick Stein's seafood restaurant and contemporary authentic Mexican dishes from Julio's alongside delicious cocktails by the pool. You will be joining a strong, enthusiastic team who are striving to excel and position Bannisters Port Stephens as a flagship in the region.
The Role and Key Duties
Preparation and cooking of dishes in accordance with the restaurant's standards, ensuring consistency in quality and presentation;
Oversee a designated section of the kitchen during service as directed by the Sous or Head Chef, ensuring a smooth and efficient experience;
Participate in daily kitchen operations, maintaining a clean and organised work area, assist with inventory management, and support kitchen team in various tasks as needed;
Lead by example to ensure the overall guest experience exceeds expectations;
Ensure compliance with all food and workplace health & safety regulations and striving to always work in a safe manner in line with workplace procedures.
Criteria Required to be Considered
Chef trade qualification (essential);
Previous experience in a commercial kitchen in a high end, fine dining or hatted environment (essential);
Ability to understand & deliver on our guests expectations;
Passion for culinary excellence and continuous improvement, and industry knowledge of food health & safety;
Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment, strong communication and teamwork skills and be able to multitask with a high attention to detail;
Ability and willingness to commence work on a rotating roster including weekends and public holidays;
Reliable vehicle to get to and from the retreat;
Located close to our restaurant or a willingness to relocate.
