Midlas is a not-for-profit Community Legal Centre with offices in Midland and Ellenbrook that supports eligible clients in the north east Perth region with legal services, disability advocacy, financial counselling, tenancy advocacy, community outreach support and information and referrals.

About You

Midlas is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Intake Officer to join our team. You will be responsible for providing triage and intake support for Midlas' Disability Advocacy Services including the Individual Advocacy and NDIS Appeals services and act as the first point of contact and support for external and internal enquires.

About the role

The Intake Officer will provide support to clients with:

  • Client intake support for referrals including screening for conflict checks, eligibility criteria, and needs assessment of clients
  • Administrative support and ensuring compliance with best practice, and record keeping
  • Involvement in analysing wait times and prioritisation of client issues according to Midlas' policies and procedures
  • Scheduling and managing disability advocacy appointment calendars, data entry, managing waitlists, monitoring and maintaining disability intake email inbox
  • Providing relief as required for reception duties including answering telephone enquiries and greeting clients

This role will be responsible for maintaining enquiries and referral records to ensure timely referrals to support services and a person-centred approach to understanding the goals and aspirations for individuals.

Required Education/Licences/Certificates

  • Qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in disability, community services or relevant field(s).
  • Possession of a current unrestricted driver's license, comprehensive insurance for business use and reliable vehicle
  • Current (less than 3 months old) pre-employment satisfactory national criminal history certificate and ongoing renewal every 2 years at employee's expense.
  • Possession of Working with Children Check
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check

Relevant Experience, Skills/Knowledge & Personal Attributes

  • Knowledge of the disability sector and an ability to interpret issues for people with disability
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, with minimum supervision and to be self-motivated, as well as an ability to work well in a team
  • Demonstrated experience in triage, intake and assessment skills
  • Proven ability to handle complex and difficult telephone with vulnerable clients
  • Proven ability and success in problem solving, organisation and time management skills
  • High level of integrity and professionalism and an ability to deal with and maintain highly confidential information
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer literacy including MS Office, client database management systems and the ability to learn new systems and platforms
  • Ability to work with flexible hours in response to business requirements
