Your new company

Hays are working with a State Government Department client who are based in Perth city, to recruit an experienced Financial Accountant to join their finance team. This will be on a 6-month temporary contract (with possibility of extension), requiring an immediate start.

Your new role

  • Oversees all external financial reporting to ensure compliance with statutory obligations, including the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, and Whole of Government reporting to the Department of Treasury.
  • Manages system administration and development of the financial management information system, performing month-end and year-end processes.
  • Ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial transactions within the general ledger, maintaining a relevant chart of accounts for the agency's business needs.
  • Investigates and implements e-commerce solutions to enhance financial processing and improve productivity.
  • Supervises accounts receivable and accounts payable functions.
  • Liaises and negotiates with the Department of Treasury and internal and external auditors.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Proven experience in preparing monthly and annual financial statements, utilising financial management information systems.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in contemporary financial accounting practices, systems, and standards.
  • Highly developed problem-solving and analytical skills, including computer literacy and advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Effective leadership skills, capable of working collaboratively within a team environment and contributing to team goals and objectives.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
