About the role
Our Queensland State Government client is seeking an experienced Privacy Specialist to play a critical role in supporting digital health initiatives across a range of projects. This position is a proof-of-concept role designed to streamline the privacy process for project teams, enabling faster delivery while ensuring compliance with privacy legislation, data governance, and health information standards.
In this role, you will manage the end-to-end Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) process and Privacy Health Assessments (PHA) for multiple digital solutions. You'll work closely with project teams, governance stakeholders, and senior leadership to ensure privacy risks are identified, mitigated, and escalated where required. Success in this role will be measured by ensuring privacy compliance across all projects and contributing to a positive privacy-aware culture across the organisation.
Key responsibilities
- Manage Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) for digital solutions, guiding their completion and interpreting relevant legislation to ensure compliance with privacy, records management, and data standards.
- Collaborate with digital health teams to align security and privacy compliance programs and ensure policies, practices, and investigations are in place.
- Identify privacy risks, escalate issues, and provide business units with mitigation strategy recommendations.
- Track, investigate, and report inappropriate access or disclosure of information, and support education and awareness activities to prevent re-occurrence.
- Engage with regulatory bodies such as the Office of the Information Commissioner or CCC for any privacy matters lodged.
- Provide timely, expert privacy advice to stakeholders and senior leadership on complex information governance issues.
- Mentor and support health information teams on privacy-related matters.
- Ensure all solutions are aligned with Queensland Health strategic direction, standards, and protocols.
Skills and experience
- Minimum 3 years' experience in privacy, governance, or information management roles.
- Strong understanding of privacy legislation (e.g., Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld)) and health information governance frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience completing PIAs and PHAs for digital or technology initiatives.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, able to work across technical and non-technical teams.
- Experience investigating privacy incidents and implementing risk mitigation strategies.
- Previous experience within Queensland Health, HHS, or another large government organisation is highly desirable.
- Relevant qualifications or certifications in privacy, data governance, or risk management are advantageous.
Benefits
- Initial contract through to December 2025 with possible extensions.
- Hybrid working arrangements from a Brisbane location.
- Chance to influence privacy practices in a leading digital health environment.
