What you'll be doing
The Aboriginal Community Engagement Project Officer plays a key role in strengthening relationships, while coordinate and supporting the development, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of a range of Aboriginal-focused projects that aim to achieve equity of cancer outcomes at a system level for the New South Wales State's Aboriginal communities, organisations, and services to improve cancer outcomes.
This role will develop and maintain internal and external relationships with stakeholders including cancer services, the Aboriginal Health and Medical research Council of NSW (AH&MRC), Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services, Local Health Districts, Primary Health Networks and non-government organisations to drive the improvement of cancer outcomes of Aboriginal communities.

In addition to base salary:
- 12% superannuation
- 4 weeks annual leave (plus 17.5% leave loading)
- 10 days sick leave
- 40 hours per week which include accrual of monthly Allocated Day Off (ADO) x 12 per year.

Essential requirements
- Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such under section 14 (d) of the NSW Antidiscrimination Act (1977), with knowledge and experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.
- Demonstrated commitment to improving health outcomes for Aboriginal communities, with the ability to work respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal peoples, organisations, and communities to support culturally safe and responsive cancer prevention initiatives.
- Operates with autonomy regarding day-to-day activities and accountable for managing competing priorities; own workloads, multiple projects with diverse group of internal/external stakeholders.
- Responsible negotiating and consulting with identified stakeholders and for the delivery of projects within agreed timeframes, budgets and quality standards.
- Exercises discretion and judgement in providing quality advice and responding to enquiries and correspondence, escalating any contentious issues to manager.
This is an identified recruitment under Rule 26 of the Government Sector Employment (General) Rules 2014 where only Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people are considered eligible to apply for this role.
