We are looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our team on a 12-month fixed term contract starting in November. In this pivotal role, you will support the finance team by performing a variety of accounting and financial duties, including managing accounts payable, assisting with month-end close processes, contributing to financial reporting, and maintaining accurate financial records.

Working closely with the Accountant and Financial Controller, you will ensure all transactions are processed accurately and efficiently, providing reliable information to support informed decision-making across the organisation.

The Role:

  • Manage accounts payable, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments while maintaining strong vendor and supplier relationships.
  • Carry out daily accounting functions, accurately recording transactions in the general ledger and supporting systems.
  • Assist with month-end close processes, including preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and validating financial data.
  • Prepare and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS) accurately and on time.
  • Support the preparation of monthly financial reports, providing variance analysis and insights.
  • Ensure compliance with organisational policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements, and support internal and external audits.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and financial control.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • 1–2 years' experience in a similar role, such as Accounts Payable or Assistant Accountant.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, with the ability to manage and analyse data effectively.
  • Proactive and detail-oriented, ensuring accuracy in all accounting and reporting tasks.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate across the finance team.
