Melbourne, Victoria, Australia McArthur Full time $80,000 - $120,000 per year

McArthur is seeking experienced candidates across multiple APS6 vacancies within the Policy & Research Division of our Federal Government client. Our client provides services that support both veterans and their surrounding families.

Both positions offer full-time hours, and are contracted on a casual basis until June 30th 2026. To be considered for these opportunities you must be an Australian Citizen, and can provide proof of full working rights.

As a Senior Policy Officer, you will work to develop and implement policy relating to the health and well-being of the veteran community. This will also include;

  • Provide advice on relevant policy issues.
  • Draft ministerial and senior executive briefings, reports, Ministerial correspondence, meeting papers and discussion papers.
  • Gather and analyse data and research to formulate and review technical advice in specific areas of policy.
  • Review and update existing policy documentation and other information which supports the work of service delivery staff.
  • Support the team with requests for information, administration, media monitoring and coordination.
  • Build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to seek feedback on, or contributions to, policy development projects.
  • Prepare presentations and briefings to support SES attendance at internal and external stakeholder and governance committees
  • Support DVA's response to the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide.

As a Communications Officer, you will support the implementation of the department's communication and education plan. This will also include;

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of communication strategies.
  • Maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders to understand their needs and inform communication approaches.
  • Coordinate and support communication activities with stakeholders.
  • Support the delivery of change initiatives by ensuring timely and transparent communication to affected groups.
  • Write clear, concise and audience-appropriate content, including briefs, talking points, presentations, ministerial correspondence, newsletter articles, internal communications, meeting papers, fact sheets, website content, and other corporate documents.
  • Manage legislation reform internet web pages and internal Sharepoint site.

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated experience relevant to Policy or Communications in a Government setting.
  • An ability to build relationships and collaborate with both internal & external stakeholders.
  • Relevant qualification in Policy or Communications
  • Currently hold a Baseline security Clearance (Desirable)
