About the team

Open Space Maintenance's role is to provide maintenance services to ensure that parks and recreational facilities are maintained to a high standard and meet agreed levels of service with the Asset Custodians via Partnering Agreements. These maintenance operations are achieved through Area Coordinators, including the planning and implementation of maintenance programs for streetscapes, parklands, sporting fields, and roadsides. We also provide professional advice to various customers on the construction and maintenance of park infrastructure, open space areasand roadsides.

About your new role

The Horticulturist Plant Operator is a key member of our Open Space Maintenance team, responsible for the presentation and upkeep of the City's High Profile Turf Parks. These parks are iconic public spaces that demand meticulous care and attention to detail, reflecting the City's commitment to excellence in landscape presentation.

Working within a proactive and skilled team, the Horticulturist Plant Operator undertakes turf maintenance activities including mowing, edging, brush cutting, and machinery operation to ensure all turf areas are maintained to premium standards. These spaces are highly visible and heavily used by residents and visitors, requiring consistent, high-quality service delivery.

The successful applicants will be appointed at the appropriate level based on qualifications, skills and experience between Level 5 and Level 7 of the Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream B) Award - Operational.

We're looking for people who have:

• Certificate III in Horticulture or higher (Mandatory)
• MR Class Manual Drivers Licence (Mandatory)
• General Construction Induction Card (White) (Mandatory)
• Ability to use an iPad
• Experience driving tractors
• Experience operating wide area mowers and the use of mowing attachments
• A basic understanding of Greenkeeping, Turf Renovations and general open space maintenance
• An understanding of Irrigation design and operations
• A high level of customer service and communication skills and the ability to prioritise and multitask in a dynamic environment
