The Role

We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer (5+ years) to join our growing data practice in Sydney. The ideal candidate is a strong problem solver with hands-on coding skills, proven experience across data transformation, and the ability to design and optimise robust data pipelines and models.

You will work closely with business stakeholders, data scientists, and platform engineers to deliver data solutions that enable advanced analytics and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, debug, and test high-quality code for data processing and transformation.
  • Transform data between data models or for reporting/analytics purposes.
  • Profile, analyse, and interpret datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights.
  • Design and maintain data models, data structures, and reusable design patterns.
  • Implement scalable ETL/ELT workflows using transformation tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align technical delivery with business outcomes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in data engineering practices and standards.

Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years' experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role.
  • Proven experience developing, debugging, and testing code.
  • Strong background in data profiling, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Solid experience in data modelling, data structures, and design patterns.
  • Proficient with data transformation tools (Dataiku preferred, otherwise Alteryx Designer).
  • Proficient with data modelling tools (Erwin preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with Java and Python for data engineering.
  • AWS experience and/or certification (preferred).
