We are seeking an experienced professional to lead engineering across maritime design and engineering support.

Your new role:

  • This role is based in Coastal NSW and would therefore require a phased relocation which is supported.
  • Lead engineering teams through all phases of ship design and build, from requirements to final acceptance.
  • Define and communicate a clear engineering vision aligned with strategic goals; foster a culture of excellence and innovation.
  • Oversee Engineering Support staff to ensure timely, accurate design outputs and reporting for project and business needs.
  • Drive process improvements and cost-effective engineering solutions without compromising quality or performance.
  • Manage the review, approval, and release of design documentation related to configuration, data, and technical outputs.
  • Champion workplace standards in quality, safety, and environmental responsibility.
  • Support business development initiatives to enable ongoing growth.

About you:

To be considered for this position, you will have:

  • Degree in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Minimum 10 years' experience that includes leading teams in an engineering environment (within defence, maritime, shipbuilding enviornment).
  • Strong knowledge of marine engineering principles, systems, and industry standards
  • Proven leadership with technical, commercial, and interpersonal strengths
  • Skilled in reviewing technical documents, manuals, and drawings using standard tools
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities in dynamic environments
  • Experience building team capability and systems in a growing organisation

Desirable:

  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status
  • Experience in Defence maritime engineering leadership roles
  • In-depth understanding of maritime regulations, naval architecture, and design engineering
  • Familiarity with defence programs, government acquisition processes, and project delivery
  • Experience with military and government documentation standards
  • Demonstrated leadership in complex or uncertain operational settings
