About the Role
The BIOC Family Support Specialist will work with families who are engaged in the BiOC Midwifery Hub to empower and build their capacity to make effective change and overcome their identified family challenges, specifically relating to interactions with Child Safety. The role requires a holistic and client centred approach when engaging families both in their homes and in the Hub. The BIOC Family Support Specialist will work on assisting families to develop insight into their history and current family challenges to self-identify their key challenges and lead their own change. The BIOC Family Support Specialist will act as an advocate for families and assist in understanding concerns, legislation, and Child Safety processes to reduce or eliminate Child Safety interventions.
Duties
- Support families in crisis - by delivering targeting and brief interventions that build the individual client's ability to regulate and cope with stress and family pressures.
- Deliver attachment-based parenting interventions, through in-home role-modelled mentoring and psycho-social education, that build parents ability to implement positive parenting techniques with children.
- Facilitate evidence-based and culturally appropriate health promotion and parenting education to BiOC mothers, families and FSW's - both individual and group settings as outlined by the manager.
- Facilitate access to services and programs by referring and connecting families to educational programs, ATSICHS clinics and specialised supports reflective of the family's needs in a timely manner.
- Strengthening the relationship with wider team, by maintaining positive communication, facilitating case review meetings both formally and informally, and sharing patient knowledge to continually improve service delivery.
- Lead and/or participate in internal and external stakeholder and case review meetings with community and government agencies, specifically Child Safety, for clients with multiple needs.
- Documented evidence in case notes, assessments, case planning and all other reports of delivering interventions and education that improve the Mum and family's safety and supports and works to keep families together.
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality as per ATSICHS policy, procedure and other regulatory requirements.
- Participate in professional development and targeted coaching to achieve performance results.

Skills and Experiences:
Required
- Current Bachelor Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Social Science, Health, Allied Health, Youth Work, Community Services, Family Intervention or Criminology with 2 years' relevant experience in family support, child protection, youth support or related field.
OR
- Current Diploma in Community Services, Social Work, Human Services, Child and Family, Allied Health, Youth Work, Child and Family Intervention with 3 years' relevant experience in family support, child protection, youth support or related field.
AND
- With at least 1-year above-mentioned experience in a case management role.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in working with Child Safety legislation and frameworks.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the factors contributing to vulnerability, disengagement, and intergenerational trauma of client group.
- Demonstrated ability to build client agency, self-efficacy and facilitate change through client empowerment.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to provide behaviour change interventions that build client self-awareness and active change in achieving their identified goals.
- Demonstrated ability to work with the whole-of-family, irrespective of primary client, in meeting the totality of family needs.
- Demonstrated ability in coordinating multiple services in providing access to holistic care for clients, particularly integrating internal agency supports across multiple teams.
- Experience with case management for high risk and/or crisis clients, with high-level planning and organisational skills.
- Knowledge of the supports available to target clients in the areas of mental health, substance misuse, education, employment, and housing.
Desirable
- Demonstrated ability and comfortableness working in a performance driven environment to meet individual weekly, monthly and quarterly performance targets.
- Experience in mentoring staff.
Additional Requirements
- National Police Certificate.
- Current Working with Children's Card (Blue Card) or be eligible to apply.
- Driver's licence.
- Evidence of Work Rights.
- Travel between work sites on a regular basis.
- Travel to work in the community on a regular basis.
