The Director, Engagement and Collaboration, Aboriginal Service Development is responsible for Community engagement and supporting the Government to work with the ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and the ACCO sector. The Director will work collaboratively with the broader team, demonstrate cultural awareness and utilise a partnership approach to work with the community.

The overarching goal of the Branch is to support new and existing ACCO's across the ACT region and provide high level strategic policy development and service design advice while acting as a conduit, fostering respectful and genuine partnerships with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and other stakeholders. The Director brings engagement experience with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community, integrity, innovation, and exceptional relationship and influencing skills to implement the goals of the Branch across the community and government. The Director also demonstrates strong policy and analytical skills, exceptional communication and high levels of personal resilience.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience leading teams and delivering services which support positive outcomes for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community is essential.
  • Program management experience at a director level to achieve organisation outcomes is desirable.
  • Background / Security clearance checks will be conducted.
  • Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra )
  • Driver's license (C class) is essential
  • Please note, this is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identified position as defined in Section 27(4) of the Public Sector Management Act 1994 and is only available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage is considered essential and therefore a Confirmation of Aboriginality will be required.

Notes: This is a temporary position available immediately until 30 June 2026 with the possibility of extension up to 12 months and/or permanency.

A merit pool or merit list may be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
