Lauriston Girls' School seeks a dynamic educator and an outstanding Brass, Woodwind or Percussion specialist, with a proven record of excellence in teaching and performance, to lead the Bands Department, comprising Brass, Woodwind & Percussion Staff and Students, from Prep -12.
The role:
This position is FTE, commencing Term 1, 2026. This is an ongoing position, with a Position of Responsibility (3-year tenure) attached. A later commencement date in 2026 may be negotiated.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the management and promotion of the Bands Program within the Music Department and the School.
Key duties:
- Lead and coordinate the Instrumental Music staff who work within Bands Department, comprising Brass, Woodwind & Percussion Staff
- Lead and coordinate the Year 5 semester-long Band Program
- Actively participate and contribute to Music Staff meetings and strategic planning activities
- Collaborate with the Director of Music and key staff and actively contribute to the planning, preparation and actioning of School and Music events and activities
- Teach collaboratively within the Bands Program, demonstrating and sharing best practice pedagogy and assessment strategies
- Conduct and Tutor within the School's Ensemble Program
- Deliver private instrumental tuition as either a Brass, Woodwind or Percussion specialist
- Willingness to teach curriculum music classes would be looked upon favourably
- Current VIT registration and ability to teach Music as part of the academic curriculum preferable
The successful applicant will have:
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in leading, managing and developing a Band Instruments Program
- Demonstrated Band Instruments teaching experience (From Beginner to Advanced level)
- Excellent conducting skills with demonstrated ability to direct ensembles from beginner to senior level
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team of people
- Highly developed organisational and communication skills
- Demonstrated keyboard skills are an advantage
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and an ability to work with students from a wide range of backgrounds and differing levels of ability
- Demonstrated proficiency on their instrument/s
Skills and Qualifications:
- A collaborative teaching approach is essential for working as a member of the Lauriston Music Department.
- VIT registration is preferable, but consideration will be given to all candidates
