Perth, Western Australia Economic Regulation Authority Full time $80,000 - $120,000 per year

The Economic Regulation Authority (ERA) is Western Australia's independent regulator of electricity, gas, water and rail. Our purpose is to benefit all Western Australians by promoting strong economic outcomes through effective regulation and decision making. Our work is challenging, complex and sensitive; we strive to make sure current and future consumers pay no more than necessary for safe and reliable utilities.

The ERA has a strong workplace culture of innovation, working with integrity, striving for excellence, and capability building. Our people are from diverse academic and cultural backgrounds, intelligent, passionate and committed, and provide a supportive, collaborative, and collegiate team operating environment.

What is the Role?

The electricity sector is central to Western Australia's efforts to address climate change, and the ERA plays a critical role in ensuring fair and efficient market outcomes.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the regulation of the wholesale electricity market as it navigates decarbonisation of the sector. The ERA is seeking a bright, passionate, curious, and motivated individual to join our Energy Markets Division.

As a Senior Analyst you will support the ERA's market monitoring and surveillance functions as well as other regulatory projects across other branches in the division.

The role provides opportunities to apply your skills, experience, and knowledge to regulation of wholesale electricity markets. This may be in the areas of electricity market modelling, distilling knowledge from large data sets, and applying your communication skills to support evidence-based decision making. The work itself is engaging, draws on critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The ERA also encourages both individual initiatives and team collaborations to achieve outcomes.

In the role you will independently manage complex and sensitive research and analysis in electricity markets. You will use your organisational skills to contribute to large projects and investigations into Market Participants for behaviour counter to the efficient operation of the wholesale electricity market. Finally, you will use your sound report writing and presentations skills to communicate your findings to a diverse range of stakeholders, and facilitate positive and fair market outcomes.

The successful applicant will be curious with a drive to understand and explain the 'why' of a problem beyond the 'what'.
