Our client, a Queensland Government Agency is seeking an experienced Java Developer to join their Business Systems team. This role will focus on uplifting and modernising core applications, supporting data quality initiatives, and transitioning services to cloud-based and modularised platforms.

This is a hands-on development role where you will collaborate with technical leads, business analysts, and other developers in an agile environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enhance and maintain existing Java-based applications and integrations
  • Transition application interfaces and features to modern platforms (e.g., Appian)
  • Modernise core functions through microservices and modularisation
  • Assist with data validation, testing, and report migration to new platforms
  • Support workflow integration and automation initiatives
  • Provide technical advice, documentation, and knowledge transfer to in-house staff
  • Contribute to cloud migration and security-compliant development practices

Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years commercial Java development experience (Java 8+)
  • Strong background in Oracle Database, PL/SQL, and enterprise-scale applications
  • Experience with JBoss EAP, Spring Boot, Hibernate (JPA), SOAP & Web Services
  • Knowledge of microservices architecture and cloud-native development
  • Experience with Azure Function Apps and containerisation (Docker) highly regarded
  • Strong CI/CD, testing frameworks (JUnit, automation), and DevOps practices
  • Experience in financial or insurance services (desirable)
  • Strong problem-solving, stakeholder engagement, and team collaboration skills
