About the Program

The Shalom Gamarada Indigenous Residential Scholarship Program supports First Nations students to access higher education, secure housing, and culturally enriching experiences. We are deeply committed to fostering meaningful intercultural connections, especially between Indigenous and Jewish communities.

Our mission is to empower the next generation of Indigenous leaders through education, allyship, and community.

Why We're Recruiting

As we enter a new phase of growth and reflection, we are seeking values-aligned board members to join our committed team. We welcome individuals with diverse backgrounds in governance, education, law, finance, social impact, or fundraising who are passionate about community-led change.

While this is a general board role, experience in financial oversight, donor relationship or governance is particularly welcomed as we continue to strengthen our operational foundations. There may be opportunities for expanded leadership responsibilities for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in quarterly board meetings and strategic decision-making.

  • Support good governance, compliance, and policy review.

  • Champion cultural safety, inclusion, and community-first values.

  • Contribute to donor stewardship and fundraising strategy.

  • (Optional) Assist in budget oversight or risk frameworks if relevant to your experience.

Ideal Experience

  • Prior board, governance, or committee experience (not essential).

  • Background in not-for-profit, education, Indigenous affairs, finance, law, social impact, or related sectors.

  • Understanding of fiduciary duties and governance best practices.

  • Financial acumen or fundraising experience (highly regarded but not mandatory).

  • Demonstrated commitment to First Nations self-determination and equity.

Time Commitment

  • Approx. 2–3 hours per month

  • Additional hours may be required if stepping into an expanded leadership role
