About RSPCA Queensland
RSPCA Queensland has the largest and busiest Wildlife Hospital in the state, providing care to over 24,000 native animals every year. There are many factors that impact our native animals: natural disasters such as bushfire and droughts, dog attacks, road accidents and habitat loss. Every year our RSPCA Animal Ambulances attend over 24,000 rescue call outs for sick, injured or orphaned wildlife.
At RSPCA Queensland, we've been the state's leading animal welfare charity for nearly 140 years, dedicated to improving the lives of all animals – domestic, farmed, and native. Every year, we care for over 42,000 animals, relying on the generosity of animal lovers like you to fund 96% of our lifesaving services.
Our Mission: Together We Change Lives, And That Includes Yours.
About the Role
Our nurses are the heart of everything we do – their compassion, skill, and teamwork make it all possible. We're now seeking an experienced & passionate Wildlife Veterinary Nurse to join our dedicated team at the RSPCA Wildlife Hospital in Wacol.
You'll work closely with experienced veterinarians and fellow nurses to provide care for injured, sick, and orphaned native animals. Our hospital operates 24/7, so flexibility to work a range of shifts (including weekends, lates, and overnights) is essential. You'll rotate through clinic and ward duties, gaining exposure to a wide variety of species and cases.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for a compassionate and committed nurse who shares our passion for wildlife and animal welfare. You'll thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced hospital environment, and find purpose in knowing your work directly supports the rehabilitation and release of Australia's native species.
You'll bring a calm, caring, and adaptable nature – someone who can think on their feet, communicate clearly, and approach every case (big or small) with empathy and professionalism. You take pride in high standards of patient care, value collaboration, and understand the importance of maintaining a positive team culture, even when things get busy.
This role would suit an experienced veterinary nurse who's eager to build on their skills in a unique clinical setting, or someone with prior wildlife or emergency experience looking for a meaningful and rewarding challenge.
What You'll Do
In this role, you will:
- Assist veterinarians during triage, treatment, and surgical procedures
- Perform medical and laboratory tests
- Deliver daily husbandry and feeding care for hospitalised patients
- Provide emergency and critical care support
- Care for native species – including koalas, possums, birds, reptiles, and more
- Participate in broader organisational projects and events that support RSPCA's mission
No two days are the same at the Wildlife Hospital – you'll work hands-on with an incredible variety of species while learning from a passionate, supportive team.
What You'll Bring to the Role
- Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (or recognised equivalent)
- Minimum 2 years' experience in veterinary nursing (wildlife or emergency experience highly regarded)
- Confidence working in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Reliable, flexible, and proactive approach to your work
- An ability to manage and prioritise tasks effectively
- Q fever, tetanus, and rabies vaccinations (or willingness to obtain)
Why Join Us?
- Employee Perks: From free on-site parking to exclusive discounts, novated leases, free pet vaccines, and 50% off Royal Canin pet food, we've got you covered You can also adopt a new furry friend with free adoption options.
- Professional Growth: Access expansive learning and development programs to help you elevate your career and skill set.
