About the role

As a Weapons Fitter Nuclear Submariner, you'll play an important role in an historic moment – the deployment of Australia's first conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines. You'll ensure the submarine's weapons systems, such as missiles, torpedoes and small arms, remain in perfect working order and mission-ready.

What you'll do

As the weapons system specialist onboard, you'll be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of submarine underwater weapons systems, including the hydraulic, water, and pneumatic (air) equipment associated with weapon launching and firing systems, as well as the equipment to embark and store weapons safely onboard. You'll also manage small arms and ammunition, be responsible for the submarine's anchoring system, and play a vital part in the combat survivability of the submarine.

Your work will require the highest standards of operational nuclear safety and security. To enable you to perform your duties, you'll undergo a comprehensive induction into the Nuclear Mindset. Drawing on the established nuclear cultures in the United Kingdom and the United States, Navy and the Australian Submarine Agency (ASA) have developed the Nuclear Mindset – a set of 10 principles to guide our nuclear workforce. Keeping your crew, our people, the public and the environment safe and secure is paramount. By adopting the Nuclear Mindset, you'll help Navy achieve those goals.
