About the Role

Mind Society has started growing and we are looking for a reliable, compassionate support worker to join our team.

We highly value lived experience and peer-informed practice, and we strongly encourage applications from peer support workers and people with lived experience of mental health or AOD challenges. We are proudly LGBTQIA+ friendly and committed to inclusive care.

This is a casual role based in Nowra and surrounding communities, supporting participants in their homes and in the community. You'll work one-on-one with clients to promote independence, connection, and wellbeing.  There may also be opportunities to engage in group activities.

In this role, you will:

·       Support participants to live independently, in alignment with their NDIS plans and personal goals

·       Build trusting, respectful relationships using trauma-informed and person-centred approaches

·       Assist with daily living tasks (e.g. cooking, cleaning, routines)

·       Facilitate community participation including social outings, appointments, and recreational activities

·       Encourage skill-building such as public transport use, managing schedules, or healthy living habits

·       Provide both emotional and practical support during times of challenge

·       Collaborate with participants, families, and other providers

·       Complete accurate, timely documentation such as progress notes and incident reports

·       Identify and respond to risks appropriately and follow organisational policies

·       Transport participants safely using your own vehicle

·       Attend team meetings and ongoing training

What You Bring

·       A genuine passion for supporting people with psychosocial disability

·       Lived experience of mental health and/or AOD challenges and a desire to use this to support others

·       Tertiary qualifications in mental health, disability, peer work, community or individual support

·       Strong communication skills and a commitment to human rights

·       Ability to work independently and as part of a small team

·       Good work ethic and commitment

Required

·       Unrestricted Driver's Licence

·       Own reliable, registered and comprehensively insured vehicle

·       NDIS Worker Screening Check

·       Working With Children Check

·       Completion of the NDIS Worker Orientation Module – "Quality, Safety and You"

·       Willingness to complete NDIS Induction Modules 1–8 before starting

Desirable

·       First Aid Certificate

·       Mental Health First Aid Certificate
