General Service Operator Traineeship
Programmed, in partnership with Woodside Energy, is offering an exciting opportunity for motivated individuals to join a General Service Operator Traineeship at the Pluto Gas Plant in Karratha, commencing February 2026.
As part of our commitment to creating stronger pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, this position is designated under Section 51 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA). The opportunity is open to Indigenous Australians, and we strongly encourage applications from local Murujuga language groups - Ngarluma, Yaburara, Yindjibarndi, Mardudhunera, and Woog-goo-Tt-Oo peoples.**
About Woodside Energy
Woodside is one of Australia's leading energy companies and has been part of the Karratha community for more than 30 years.
At the Pluto LNG Plant in Karratha, gas from offshore fields is turned into liquefied natural gas (LNG) and shipped around the world. This energy keeps homes warm, lights on, and businesses running.
Pluto is one of Australia's most modern LNG facilities and is known for being safe, reliable, and efficient. By joining as a trainee, you'll be part of this world-class operation while gaining skills for your future.
About the Traineeship
This is more than just a job - it's the start of a career in the energy industry.
As a General Service Operator Trainee, you'll complete a Certificate II in Process Plant Operations while gaining practical, on-the-job experience alongside skilled operators and technicians. You'll learn how energy is produced, develop new skills, and contribute to a workplace that values safety, teamwork, and community.
Your Role
As a General Service Operator Trainee, you'll be hands-on from day one, learning the ropes and supporting the team across different parts of the site. Your role will include:
- Taking part in daily toolbox talks and pre-start meetings to learn about the day's work and safety priorities.
- Helping with maintenance and clean-up activities, keeping work areas safe and tidy.
- Assisting with marine operations - such as preparing the wharf and supporting vessel tie-ups and departures.
- Supporting LNG truck operations, including refuelling activities.
- Training as part of the Emergency Response Team, learning how to respond if an incident occurs.
- Carrying out routine equipment checks and reporting any issues, contributing to safe and reliable operations.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for people who are ready to learn, work hard, and make the most of this opportunity. To be successful, you will bring:
- An interest in operations, maintenance, and safety.
- Reliability, motivation, and a willingness to learn.
- Year 12 completion (or equivalent).
- A current C Class driver's licence.
- Good physical fitness and a strong commitment to safety.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and ongoing drug & alcohol testing.
- Capacity to meet the requirements for a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC).
What You'll Receive
When you join this program, you'll be supported every step of the way. You'll receive:
- A nationally recognised qualification - Certificate II in Process Plant Operations.
- All TAFE and training fees fully covered by Programmed.
- Competitive pay plus a Karratha housing allowance.
- An attractive roster for work/life balance: after initial classroom training, move into a 2 weeks on / 3 weeks off cycle.
- Ongoing mentoring and support from your Programmed Training Co-ordinator and Indigenous Coaches.
- The chance to work on world-class assets known for their safety and reliability.
- An inclusive and supportive workplace that values diversity, culture, and community.
Committed to Karratha
These roles are designed for people who already live in the Pilbara region or who can show a strong connection to the local community. Woodside and Programmed are committed to building long-term local employment pathways and investing back into the community.
Applications Close: Friday, 10th October 2025
