The Role
We are seeking a dedicated Portfolio Reconstruction Specialist to join our dynamic team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to utilise your skills in portfolio administration, asset transactions, and financial data analysis. You will be instrumental in managing the reconstruction of investment portfolios, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all processes. The purpose of reconstructing the investment portfolios is to provide accurate, detailed and clear historical and ongoing valuation, performance and tax reporting.
Outside of technical knowledge, you will be working closely with our offshore team to deliver outcomes so you must be a team player and be willing to provide ongoing training and support where needed.
Duties & Responsibilities
Core objectives will include;
· Liaise with Business Development Managers, Relationship Managers and the Adviser to obtain client requirements and expectations.
· Collect data and documents necessary to complete portfolio reconstruction.
· Manage the allocation of work between this role and the outsourced team .
o Collect historical data:
§ Asset Transaction History
§ Cash Transaction History
§ Outside Investments
§ Unrealised Capital Gains Report
§ Realised Capital Gains Report
§ Present-day Portfolio Valuation
o Input Asset & Cash Transaction Data per supplied reporting. Identify gaps in reporting, primarily due to;
§ corporate actions
§ externally paid transactions & income
o Reconcile:
§ Asset positions
§ Cash Balance
§ Unrealised Cost-parcels
o Identifying variances in cost-bases, particularly for trust securities and stapled securities
§ Replace cost-parcels for stapled securities
§ Eliminate distributions which affect cost-base
o Transaction Match remaining Cash, Asset, and Income lines not already completed by the system.
o QC & Review of Unallocated Amounts and atypical Portfolio Variance spikes prior to finalising rebuild.
o If required - Diarise & take-ownership for remaining rebuild items identified during the initial rebuild process. e.g. Unknown cost-bases or tax dates.
· Maintain transition trackers/project plan for Transition and onboarding team.
· Developing, documenting, and maintaining general day to day systems procedures to ensure the service runs smoothly in all aspects.
· Maintain internal and external procedures on an ongoing basis.
Required Skills & Experience
· Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar portfolio reconstruction or related financial role
· Strong understanding of:
o Financial markets and trade/settlement exchange mechanics
o Corporate actions and their impact on portfolios
o Asset class history and valuation errors
· Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including:
o VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, IF statements
o Filtering, sorting, text-to-columns, find and replace
· Solid mathematical ability
· Tax knowledge, including:
o Capital Gains Tax (CGT) and CGT Rollover Relief
o Cost-base adjustments
o AMIT excess/shortfall
o Tax-deferred capital returns and beneficial ownership
Desirable Characteristics & Personal Attributes
· Willingness to take ownership of responsibilities and progress into leading an offshore team
· High attention to detail and commitment to quality control
· Strong problem-solving abilities
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience liaising with:
o Financial advisers and accountants
o Fund managers and registries
o Internal teams and stakeholders
