Job Title: Outreach Officer

Award:  SCHADS Level 5.1 (Permanent part-time Reports To:  Team Leader

Community Accommodation and Support Agency Inc (CASA)was established in 1983 as a Homelessness service. The organisation is highly respected in the Mackay region and well recognised for continuously expanding services and support to meet the needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the community.

Our strategic intent is for growth and sustainability while focusing on our core business to enable people to achieve stability and independence through the provision of tailored housing and support services.

Position Purpose

As an Outreach Worker at CASA, you will play a vital role in connecting with and supporting individuals sleeping rough within the community. This position demands compassion, resilience, and a proactive approach to engaging with marginalized groups and linking them to essential services. You will work as part of a small, dedicated team of three, conducting daily outreach in pairs and completing regular reporting. The CASA Outreach Team collaborates closely with local government bodies, non-government organizations, and internal CASA teams to ensure coordinated and effective support for those in need.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Street Outreach

  2. Conduct regular street outreach to identify and engage with individuals experiencing homelessness

  3. Build trusting relationships and assess immediate needs for shelter, food, and other essential services
  4. Client Advocacy

  5. Advocate for clients in accessing available support services, including healthcare, mental health resources, housing and social assistance programs

  6. Assist clients in navigating social systems and overcoming barriers to accessing services
  7. Resource Connection

  8. Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure clients have access to relevant resources and programs

  9. Provide information on housing options, employment services, and other support available within the community
  10. Case Management

  11. Maintain accurate and confidential client records, documenting interactions and progress, and providing reports as required

  12. Work collaboratively with case management teams to develop and implement individualized support plans
  13. Assist clients with applications, including but not limited to, applications to apply for ID, Centrelink and housing
  14. Community Engagement

  15. Represent CASA in the community, participating in outreach events and building relationships with local businesses, organizations, and community members

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Current Class C Drivers License
  • Blue Card Qld (Clearance to work with children),
  • NDIS Workers Screening Clearance Card
  • Weekend work required.

Desired Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years' experience within the community services sector

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • Ability to work unsupervised, and safely, outside of CASA office hours.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and case management skills relating to assessment, intake, case planning, case reviews, co-service delivery and critical incident responses.
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure self-compliance with organisational and funded bodies regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the capacity to use Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel and Outlook) and/or ability to learn and/or navigate the organisation's data bases and funding bodies requirements.

Tuesday 8:00am - 4:30pm

Wednesday 8:00am - 4:30pm

Thursday 8:00am - 4:30pm

Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm

Saturday 7:00am - 12:00 midday
