ABOUT THE ROLE:

You will be leading a large operational team of Train Drivers and Operations Specialists, to run the rail operations within the Hunter Valley. Your aim is to ensure an engaged and committed workforce that delivers an optimum service to meet the objectives of the business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead your operational team to achieve an effective and safe performance that is best practice within the Australian rail industry. This will include:

  • developing and improving safe systems of work.
  • maintaining a suite of operating documents.
  • investigating all incidents to a high standard.
  • ensuring that all statutory requirements relevant to WH&S and RSNL are complied with.
  • Project management of initiatives to support One Rails strategic focus
  • Influencing and refining operational systems, striving for continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Lead a team of Operations Specialists (Driver Trainers) to deliver effective coaching, training and development to the Train Crew.
  • Deliver superior operational outcomes to customers that includes on-time performance of all services and delivery of committed volumes.
  • Monitor and measure with the aim to improve operational performance to ensure all agreed internal and external Key Performance Indicators are met.
  • Ensure all costs are managed in accordance with budget and cost savings are made where possible.
  • Ensure open and proactive communication with all operational staff.
  • Work collaboratively with peers and cross-functional teams.

To be successful in this position, you will ideally need to possess the following skills:

  • Proven leadership experience in managing large operational teams, with a track record of driving performance, fostering collaboration, and achieving strategic outcomes.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders, negotiate effectively, and build strong working relationships across all levels of the organisation.
  • High level of personal accountability, with a commitment to delivering results and taking ownership of responsibilities.
  • Adaptability and flexibility, with a proactive approach to responding to changing business needs, priorities, and operational demands.
  • Exceptional time management and prioritisation abilities, ensuring deadlines are met and resources are optimally allocated in a dynamic environment.
  • A current and valid driver's licence, enabling travel as required for operational duties.
  • Willingness and capability to participate in a rotating on-call arrangement, providing support outside standard business hours when necessary.

Highly regarded

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline
  • Formal qualifications in leadership or management desirable.
  • Experience in the rail industry
