We focus on commercial losses and claims in the aviation, energy, marine, property, casualty and special risk markets, many of which are large and complex in nature. These include onshore and offshore energy claims, maritime casualties, aircraft losses, large infrastructure claims and financial lines losses.
The Role
Charles Taylor Adjusting (Australia) Pty Ltd is seeking to recruit a suitably experienced Loss Adjuster to join our Property claims team in the full-time role of Loss Adjuster in Far North Queensland. This team focusses primarily on the adjustment of commercial property claims.
The position involves the investigation, evaluation and management of commercial insurance claims on behalf of Australian and London-based insurers to whom we report.
The role will require you to provide an efficient and high-quality property claims handling service for various insurers.
The role includes a package that is commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience, a car allowance and other benefits.
Key Responsibilities
To perform a loss adjusting function for all claims. This will involve: -
· Receiving and acknowledging new claims instructions
· Inspecting and assessing damage and loss to insured property
· Managing and coordinating claims in a timely and professional fashion
· Undertaking site visits and meeting with Insurers, Reinsurers, Brokers, Claimants, Insureds and other interested parties in New South Wales and other locations across Australia
· Preparing preliminary reports commenting in detail on all aspects of the claim including policy considerations, potential quantum and future actions and costs minimisation for Insurer
· Instructing and controlling surveyors, building consultants, forensic accountants and other experts as necessary
· Communicating regularly with all interested parties, calculating and approving interim payments, preparing interim reports and other communications
· Estimating insurance costs, calculating, negotiating and agreeing settlement of claims, and preparing accurate final reports.
· Working with and supporting the other Adjusters
To assist in the marketing and PR of the Charles Taylor Adjusting's loss adjusting operations, which will involve working closely with members of the Property, Casualty, Technical and Special Risks divisions. This will include:
· Developing working relationships with existing Clients
· Helping to identify and plan approaches to new Clients
· Arranging and attending client coffee meetings and lunches, client evenings and other social events
· Assisting in the preparation and delivery of presentations and tenders to Clients and potential Clients
· Assisting others with their marketing functions.
Where required, to assist in the training, development and mentoring of other members of the team.
Qualification / Knowledge and Experience
Essential-
- Degree (e.g. BCom, BSc, etc.) and / or Project Management Certification (e.g. Diploma)
- Completed an accredited Loss Adjusting qualification or currently undertaking further study in this regard
- At least +1 years' experience in the loss adjusting industry
- Property and Commercial Loss Adjusting experience
- Preference is for candidate to have Marine Surveying and Adjusting experience
- Preference for having catastrophe (CAT) loss adjusting experience
- Have the Right to Live and Work in Australia

- Be focused on customer service at all times
- Have excellent written and oral communication skills
- Have high level analytical and report writing skills with a strong attention to detail
- Be self-motivated, proactive and able to work as part of a small professional team.
- Skilled in use of Microsoft Office (excel, work, outlook, etc.)
Ad Hoc Duties
Your key accountabilities will include such other duties and tasks as allocated to you at the discretion of management and that are within your capabilities and within the scope of your post.
The role has a base salary of Au$90,000 to Au$100,000.
