Mechanical Engineer – Data Centres At Goodman
The Mechanical Engineer will have a direct reporting relationship with the General Manager, Data Centre Development, ensuring a close alignment with the strategic goals and operational needs of the data centre projects. This position is crucial in supporting the Design Managers by offering innovative and effective technical solutions across various assigned data centre projects. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for providing expert technical direction and operational advice, making informed decisions, and offering overall leadership for the technical specifications and delivery of data centres within the Goodman portfolio in Australia.

In this role, the Mechanical Engineer will oversee the management of both internal and external resources to ensure the successful delivery of data centre technical specifications. This includes coordinating with various stakeholders, such as contractors, suppliers, and project teams, to ensure seamless project execution. The Mechanical Engineer will also play a key role in supporting the Projects team by managing and reporting on the progress of data centre projects. This involves ensuring that all projects are delivered to Goodman's high standards of quality, within the approved budget, and within the specified time frame requirements.

Day To Day

• Support the Design Managers in providing technical solutions through demonstrated deep understanding of technical and customer requirements across all key disciplines
• Accountable for reviewing the related disciplines in the design process, providing instruction to RFIs and review/approve technical submittals
• Research, evaluate, and inform mechanical/electrical equipment and other typology equipment/component selection to inform technical solution for respective customer requirements
• Design, implement, and maintain the mechanical/electrical systems that support data centre facilities, in conjunction with the Design Managers
• Provide technical support and input through delivery design phase to ensure performance requirements of mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment meets project requirements
• Post delivery, undertake reviews of mechanical, electrical and plumbing performance to identify opportunities for optimisation in operation, improvements in design and energy efficiency for future implementation
• Provide design management, technical direction, decision-making and leadership for data centre designs and critical infrastructure systems
• Use technical knowledge in ensuring the successful delivery of projects within budget, scope, and timeline
• Establish and strengthen relationships and understanding of preferred vendor solutions to ensure efficient, cost effective and effective design solutions for Customer technical requirements and integration
• Build and maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Scope, tender and engage consultancy services required for each project
• Manage the projects design requirements including peer reviews, presentations, internal stakeholder review and coordination
• Contribute to the feasibility phase by undertaking due diligence activities to validate technical solutions in site selectionDevelop relationships with customers throughout the delivery process
• Contribute to the development and evolution of a Goodman 'Basis of Design' as trends and technology evolves

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, plus minimum six to eight years experience as Mechanical Engineer
• Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in commercial and industrial engineering, with a primary focus on data centres
• Strong understanding of hyperscale and co-location data centre operators basis of design and technical requirements
• Understanding data centre facility design and construction requirements
• Strong project management or project lead experience including RFQ/RFP process, selecting engineering teams, developing budgets, coordinating multiple consultant teams and facilitating meetings
