About Lump

Lump is a Melbourne based sculpture, design and fabrication studio specialising in sheet metal work. Recognised as one of Australia's leading designers and creators of contemporary outdoor sculptures and decorative objects with over 20 years of experience in the field.

The Position

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic sheet metal fabricator / welder to join our small and busy fabrication team. This is a full-time, permanent position based at our factory in Fairfield.

Materials and Equipment you will work with

You will work with stainless steel, weathering steel, mild steel and aluminium. Our equipment includes TIG & MIG Welders, Brake Press, Rollers, Guillotine, Drill Press, CNC routers and a Fibre Laser.

Skills and Requirements

  • Sheet Metal Fabrication trade qualification
  • 5 years minimum experience as qualified in a manufacturing workshop
  • Experience operating machinery - press brake, guillotine, rollers and welders
  • Capable of performing manual / physical work
  • Current drivers' licence and own transport
  • Current White card
  • Current forklift license
  • Ability to read drawings
  • Attention to detail
  • Great work ethic, punctual and positive attitude
  • Experience installing works on site
  • Demonstrated TIG and MIG welding skills (weld test at interview required)
  • Employing hand tools, flame cutting torches, and metal cutting machines to cut marked-out metal sections and shapes
  • Shaping and bending metal sections and pipes using a combination of hand and machine tools, as well as heating and hammering techniques
  • Ensuring precise alignment of parts to be joined using hand tools and measuring instruments
  • Utilizing various welding techniques, bolting, and riveting to join metal sections
  • Inspecting welds for width of bead, penetration, and overall precision
  • Completing the finishing touches on products by performing tasks such as cleaning, polishing, filing, and immersing them in acidic solutions

Hours of Work

  • General hours are Monday to Friday 7:00am – 3:30pm
  • Morning and afternoon paid 15-minute breaks and 30-minute unpaid Lunch break.
