The Role

Reporting to the Co-Managers, Local Jobs First Policy, and working as part of a small and dynamic team, the Senior Policy Officer, Local Jobs First Policy, is responsible for leading a diverse range of projects to support the delivery of Local Jobs First. The role supports the day-to-day operation of the Local Jobs First Policy and provides high level policy advice to senior management, the Executive, the Minister and a range of industry stakeholders.

The responsibilities of the Senior Policy officer will include:

  • Contributing to the delivery of the Local Jobs First Policy and prepare high quality policy and strategic advice on issues related to government procurement and industry policy.
  • Leading policy co-ordination and development in relation to the implementation of the legislative reforms to the Local Jobs First Act 2003 to ensure the Local Jobs First scheme continues to maximise opportunities for local jobs and businesses.
  • Leading initiatives related to the application of Local Jobs First across government departments and agencies and industry to support compliance.

The Team

The position of Senior Policy Officer forms a part of the Industry Development, Construction, Manufacturing and Talent branch within the Industry, Trade and Investment group.

The Industry, Trade and Investment (ITI) group works closely with businesses locally and globally to grow Victorian jobs, drive innovation and increase Victoria's international competitiveness. The Industry Development, Construction, Manufacturing and Talent (IDCMT) Branch is responsible for shaping and ensuring the delivery of the Victorian Government's industry development agenda.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:

  • Experience in industry development, industry participation policy or other relevant areas where policy skills and capabilities are transferable would be highly regarded.
  • Policy Design, Development and Analysis: Demonstrated experience in formulating public policy options and recommendations and providing strategic advice to senior management on issues related to procurement and/or industry policy.
  • Conceptual and Analytical Skills: High level conceptual and analytical skills including the ability to research, analyse issues and develop innovative policies and effective solutions.
  • Written and Verbal Communication: Well-developed written and verbal communication skills with experience in the preparation of comprehensive reports and briefs on complex and sensitive issues.
