About the role
We are seeking a talented and dedicated Sous Chef to join our dynamic team at Rumour Has it cafe in Hawthorn, VIC. As a casual Sous Chef, you will play a vital role in supporting the Head Chef and overseeing the day-to-day operations of our busy kitchen. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your culinary skills and contribute to the success of our thriving cafe.
What you'll be doing
- Assist the Head Chef in planning and executing creative, high-quality menu items
- Supervise and mentor the kitchen team, ensuring consistent food preparation and presentation
- Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards
- Participate in menu development and suggest new and innovative dishes
- Manage inventory and order supplies to maintain efficient kitchen operations
- Collaborate with the front-of-house team to provide exceptional customer service
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment
What we're looking for
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar role within the hospitality industry
- Australian work authorisation is required for this position
- Strong knowledge of food preparation, plating, and presentation techniques
- Excellent time management and multitasking skills to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Passion for creating delicious, visually appealing dishes
- Ability to work collaboratively with the kitchen and front-of-house teams
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills
- Proficiency in following food safety and hygiene protocols
