We have a current opportunity for an
UAS Airworthiness Expert
, on a contract basis within the Defence sector. The role is based in
Fairburn, ACT
. The contract is for an
initial 12 month period, with a 2 x 12 month extension option
.

Start: circa 01 December 2025

DSS Skill Set: Level 3 - Program & Product Management Services & Support

The Airworthiness Expert will be responsible for, but not limited to the following duties:

  • Provide subject matter expert advice on Operational Airworthiness (OPAW) within the context of the Defence Aviation Safety Framework.
  • Develop risk management plans utilising Army's risk management tools in accordance with Defence Aviation Safety Framework policy and advice, and Army MAO policy, to support Commander's acceptance and understanding of aviation risk.
  • Regularly consult with the technical, operational standards and capability management representatives in order to support the development of risk management plans and implementation of controls.
  • Assist in the development of policy relating to Army's Flying Management System, Operational flying safety and the management of risk.
  • Develop, review, progress and provide SME advice supporting UAS Defence Aviation Safety Regulation (DASR) approvals and instruments.

Minimum mandatory requirements:

  • AGSVA Security clearance.
  • Defence experience.
  • Superior knowledge of Defence Industry with respect to aviation, including DASR approvals such as DASR ORO.40 Aviation Life Support Equipment, ORO.65 Electronic Equipment and ORO.75 Role Equipment provisions, publication change requests, and decision briefs to support technical and operational airworthiness approvals.
  • Superior knowledge of aviation operational and technical airworthiness within the context of the Defence Aviation Authority framework including Military Type Certificates, Operational Specifications, Military Permits to Fly, Command Clearances, Deviations, Airworthiness Issue Papers, Military Certification Review Items and DASR.UAS (in toto),.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments and developing risk management submissions to support management, acceptance and understanding of aviation risk.
  • Proven ability to work within a multiple disciplined Commonwealth and Contractor team to achieve effective outcomes.
