We need an all-rounder who has capabilities in the digital media space, combined with knowledge about fabrics and sewing. If that sounds like you then keep reading

This role requires retail assistance in the fabric stores, combined with photography, editing, and social media marketing. Once you get to know our fabrics and customers, use that knowledge to assist our digital media manager in our online sphere. Ideally, you would be available 24+ hours per week, splitting your time 60% in retail assisting and 40% in digital media assisting. Exact time allocation will be discussed during the interview stages.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Customer assistance: you will be required to enter sales into the register, help customers to find suitable products, and answer any questions they may have.
  • Advising on fabrics & sewing: our customers have varying fabric and sewing knowledge, and often ask for advice. It is important to be able to guide them on what may work best for their project.
  • Cutting fabric & trims: majority of sales will be fabric, and it is necessary to have accuracy and discernment when cutting fabric to a desired length.
  • Cleaning & tidying the shop: fabrics need to be put away and the shop needs to be left in a tidy state.
  • Work at both locations and weekends: staff are expected to be able to work at both our Melbourne stores in Glen Huntly and Fitzroy, and we ask that staff are available for at least 2 Saturdays per month.
  • Digital media assistance: help our digital media manager with photography, photo editing, and social media marketing, for 1-2 days per week.

Qualifications & experience

  • Knowledge of sewing: you do not need to be a professional sewer, however our customers often ask for sewing advice, so general knowledge of sewing is helpful. A love of fashion and design is a bonus
  • Knowledge of fabrics: customers will often need advice on what fabrics will work best for them. Having a knowledge of fabric characteristics/applications like natural vs synthetic, and woven vs knit, is helpful.
  • Industry or retail experience is a bonus - you don't need to be a retail superstar, however having experience dealing with customers and knowing how to serve can help.
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe suite: we use Adobe suite for photo editing, marketing materials etc., so any level of experience with this interface is required.
  • Digital media literate: must have some level of experience with Creator Studio, MailChimp, social media platforms, etc.
  • Australian work rights are required for this position.
