Our Technical Services team delivers significant projects and programs across the States Abandoned Mines Lands Program, non-commercial water assets, Exploration Data Centres and other complex technical services. As Director, Innovation and Planning within Technical Services, you will lead critical projects across Queensland's Abandoned Mine Lands Program and other complex technical services. A typical day might begin by reviewing risk assessments for abandoned mines, investigating remediation or re-commercialisation strategies, and coordinating research and opportunities for innovation. You'll also oversee asset management and procurement processes, ensuring budgets and resources are managed effectively to support program delivery.

A key part of your role is providing progress briefings and guidance to departmental executives on emerging risks, program milestones and community impacts. Whether you're preparing detailed submissions, managing complex stakeholder expectations or negotiating responses to urgent issues, your ability to translate technical information into clear, actionable recommendations will be vital. This position also requires a strong focus on planning, innovation and governance to lead funding submissions, influence policies and ensure asset management capability across the business group.

You'll guide and oversee a small multidisciplinary team, and be an influential leader across the broader team, where you'll be instrumental in driving a culture of trust, creative thinking, and cohesion. You'll foster collaboration across government, industry, research organisations and community groups to deliver practical, innovative solutions to complex challenges. This is an impactful role and will help ensure Queensland's Technical Services team are positioned well to protect public health and safety, property and the environment by minimising the risks and impacts of abandoned mines and operating plants. What we're looking for:

• Experience in collaboration across government, industry, and research organisations.

• Experience across policy development and project management in the resources sector, such as exploration, surface mining, minerals processing and refining, or oil and gas operations.

• Project Management or Asset Management qualifications and skills.

• A university degree qualification from a recognised tertiary institution in a technical field (e.g. Environmental, Earth Science, Geoscience, Science, Engineering) would be highly regarded.

• Current open C class driver licence.

• Travel away from the centre may be required.
