The role

As an Inspector of Mines – Mental Health and Wellbeing, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing psychosocial management across the mining sector by enforcing mines safety legislation and leading inspections and audits with a specific focus on psychosocial hazards.

You will provide specialist technical advice on how PCBU's are managing the identification, assessment, and controls of psychosocial risks in mining workplaces.

Your insights will guide executive leadership, contribute to strategic policy formulation, and support interdepartmental collaboration to advance psychosocial initiatives in the mining industry.

Drawing on your in-depth knowledge of psychosocial risk management, you will lead and support investigations into workplace incidents, including those related to psychosocial hazards and workplace behaviour complaints. Your work will help inform regulatory responses and contribute to systemic improvements across the industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enforce relevant mine safety legislation through audits and inspections with a psychosocial focus.
  • Lead investigations into workplace incidents involving psychosocial harm.
  • Contribute to the development of regulatory policies, guidelines, and strategic plans.
  • Monitor and report on industry performance in managing psychosocial hazards.
  • Participate in and lead proactive education and awareness campaigns to support mental health in mining.
  • Represent the department in high-level forums and inter-agency working groups.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department for the next 12 months, from the date that the recruitment breach period has been finalised.

  • Experience and knowledge, preferable within the resources sector or an industry with similar workforce issues, in an Australian or International context and extensive knowledge of factors contributing to the mental health of workers.

  • Proven leadership in developing motivated and cohesive work teams to achieve cultural change.

Please note that a Bachelor of Psychology with eligibility for registration Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) is required for this role.
