The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.

The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.

About the Division

The Schools Workforce Group (SWG) has a lead responsibility to support the attraction and retention of teachers in Victorian government schools, provide high-quality schools HR operations, and provide policy and employee relations advice.

The Schools Workforce Group are responsible for:

  • providing high-quality human resources and recruitment services to Victorian government schools
  • developing school workforce supply and demand strategies and initiatives
  • supporting the attraction and retention of teachers in Victorian government schools
  • managing the industrial environment, and provide strategic and timely human resource advice
  • providing consultancy support to principals and schools in relation to Human Resources matters.

This role operates within the Schools Recruitment Unit.

About the Role

The purpose of this role is to support the manager of the Schools Recruitment unit in delivering HR outcomes via the effective development of HR practices and implementation of complex HR projects. This role assists in leading HR projects, staff development, ensuring continual customer focus and maintaining key stakeholder relationships across the Department.

As an Assistant Manager/Senior Project Officer, you will assist in leading the delivery of a range of HR projects, provide support to a designated client base and be relied on for the strategic human resources consultancy. You will also provide guidance to team members and clients on a broad range of generalist human resources matters.

Your ability to establish and maintain productive and consultative relationships will be critical as will the ability to deliver outcomes and drive change in a complex environment. Demonstrated understanding of public sector HR matters, policies and processes is expected.
