About the role
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Motor Mechanic to join us. As a Mechanic at Welshpool Auto Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining, testing, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of vehicles, particularly petrol engines and their mechanical components including transmission, suspension, steering and brakes. Your role includes performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and ensuring all work is completed to the highest standards.
The Motor Mechanic will be expected to perform the following core duties and responsibilities:
· Detecting and diagnosing mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults in engines and vehicle components using diagnostic tools and equipment.
· Dismantling, removing, and reassembling engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms, and other mechanical components.
· Repairing or replacing worn and defective parts on engines, transmissions and differentials
. Swapping engines, transmissions and differentials
· Performing scheduled maintenance services, including oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections, to ensure smooth running and compliance with regulations.
· Testing and adjusting mechanical and electrical parts after repair for proper performance and diagnosis.
· Conducting vehicle inspections and providing accurate estimates for repairs.
· Performing tyres fitting and balancing services as required
· Tests and adjusts mechanical parts after repairs using diagnostic tools and computer-assisted systems to verify proper operation and performance.
· Reassembles engines and vehicle components after repair, ensuring precision fitting and quality control.
· Maintaining accurate records of services performed, parts used, and time spent on repairs.
· Communicating effectively with clients about required work and providing excellent customer service.
· Ensures all work is carried out in accordance with safety standards, manufacturer procedures, and environmental regulations.
About you
This role requires a qualified tradesperson with a formal qualification in the field of automotive mechanical technology, preferably an AQF Certificate III or IV in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (or equivalent).
Ideally you will bring broad range of expertise and competence, with the following attributes:
· Strong knowledge of vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, and electrical systems.
· Experienced in diagnosing and repairing light vehicles
· Minimum of 1-year post-apprenticeship experience as a Light Vehicle Mechanic in a similar environment is highly preferred.
· Strong knowledge and experience in diagnosing and repairing light vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, and electrical systems.
· Proficiency with diagnostic tools and equipment and strong diagnostic skills.
· Tires fitting and balancing experience is preferred
· Valid WA driver's license and clean driving record
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
