Financial Controller / Accounting Manager
· Civil contracting environment.
· Pathway to CFO
· Canberra location
Nathan Group Holdings oversees five related entities, with Nathan Contractors as its main operating business, servicing the Civil, Mining and Energy construction sectors across Eastern Australia. Reporting to the Group CEO, this role manages all financial, commercial, and accounting functions across the Group, supports decision-making through board papers and business cases, and is responsible for achieving financial goals while ensuring operational integrity.
This role represents an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated finance professional with a contemporary mindset and an appetite for growth to join the business and develop the finance and accounting functions. Upon starting, you will conduct a SWOT analysis and recommend the required steps towards financial best practice. The role is currently supported externally, but internal support will grow as technology systems advance. It is essential you possess strong accounting enterprise systems knowledge, capability with Microsoft products and an affinity for technology in an applied sense.
You should be a degree-qualified accountant (CPA or CA) ideally with experience in project driven sectors such as construction, civil contracting and engineering services. You have a strong financial and accounting background and have likely moved into a Controller role before deepening your business knowledge through financial management. You have financial, contractual, and commercial management skills and knowledge, strong negotiation and organisational abilities, attention to detail, and a proven ability to influence at all levels. Professional mentorship will be provided if there are experience gaps in your background.
You may be in a larger national business but feel blocked from exercising your full suite of skills or you may be in a smaller regional organisation that is not providing the opportunities you require to grow professionally. Either way a hands-on, purposeful, and committed approach is essential for this role.
An excellent remuneration package will be negotiated with the preferred candidate. Please send a confidential resume and covering letter to Peter Tulau at or phone on
